Despite Rain Stompers Succeeded

Race morning was a cold 42 degrees and wind driven rain pelted the runners and walkers but the company was convivial and the schoolhouse provided warm and comfortable shelter before and after the Stomp. Seasoned participants dressed for the weather and quickly swapped their wet running attire for warm duds, packed in response to the forecast.

As always, a delicious buffet of post-race finger foods – complete with herring – greeted the runners as they relaxed after completing the course.

Special new shirts were created for this, the 20th year of the Swedish Stomp. These and other Bishop Hill tees, sweats, and shirts are available for purchase at the Colony Store and the Welcome Center.

There are never losers at the Stomp, only winners! The top medals were won by the fastest folks listed below.
Galva High School junior Mike Bersell, led the pack from start to finish and made the top overall time: 18:57.   GHS senior Ryan Olson came in second at 20:56. Jeremy Randolph of Galesburg was third at 22:13. Patty Gustafson of Galesburg – a past Stomp women’s winner – was the top female finisher. She finished in 23:58. Allison Zurcher of Davenport, Iowa was second at 24:18, followed by Cathy Tillberg of Moline, 24:23.
