Stew in the rain in Bishop Hill

Despite the rain, the Jordbruksdagarna stew pot attracted a hungry crowd this weekend.

A BIG THANK YOU to all the Old Settlers, helpers, friends, and hungry diners who made our 2019 stew-a-thon a success. Our location was moved from the park to a side street and then, due to rain, to the school house. Yet somehow, folks found their way to the familiar kettle that has come to identify this annual event!  As usual, many, many people are responsible for pulling this together but nothing communicates the communal effort better than the photo of Stew-meister, Randy Anderson at the end of Sunday’s cooking marathon.
The pic recalls the unofficial motto of the Postal Service (and Randy’s years as Postmaster) "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."
Well done all! You beat the weather and saved the day. As the clouds cleared just before sunset, a rainbow (for the 2nd time this season!) briefly shown above the schoolhouse. It was the perfect punctuation to a day of fabulous food and fellowship.
