BHOSA April News and Volunteer Fair

Happy Easter! Happy Spring!

The Bishop Hill Museums & Organizations will host their Volunteer Fair on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at the Bishop Hill Museum, 304 S. Bishop Hill Road, from 1 to 3 p.m. No registration is required. Individuals searching for volunteer opportunities in Bishop Hill, Illinois, can learn about what its organizations have to offer by attending the fair.

Representatives from the Bishop Hill Arts Council, Bishop Hill Heritage Association, Bishop Hill Old Settlers’ Association, Bishop Hill State Historic Site, and the Henry County Museum will be onsite to answer questions and provide information on volunteering with their respective organizations. Volunteers are especially needed during this year’s 175th-anniversary celebration of Bishop Hill’s founding. If you would like more information contact Bryan Engelbrecht, IL-DNR, at 309-927-3345.

April News from the BHOSA

The prospect of having a meeting of the BH Old Settlers in April is canceled until word of a surge in Illinois is made clear and more people in Henry County are vaccinated  A meeting is proposed for Wednesday, May 12,  at 6 o’clock at the school, subject to COVID guidelines.

There was a problem with the Colony School's furnace and thermostat at the end of February resulting in damage to bathroom fixtures and plumbing. Repairs are underway. Insurance will cover these repairs except for a small deductible.

Joella Krause has agreed to serve as Treasurer of the Old Settlers and will be confirmed by the Executive Committee on April 6.  She will begin her office in April.  Beth Magnuson has been acting as Treasurer pro tem and will continue to serve as Secretary.

May will be the prime time for planning our 175th celebration and parade, so please plan to attend the meeting if you can.  Our regular meeting date is changed from the first Wednesday to the second Wednesday to provide a current Treasurer’s Report for the previous month to be reviewed at the monthly meetings.

Please contact President Anderson (309-883-9209) with any questions or comments regarding your participation.
